Our Camberwell project is a renovation and addition to a 1930’s double brick Art Deco home in Camberwell. APC build was invited to tender at 70% documentation. This allowed input for value management and buildability from an early stage.

The scope of works for the existing structure included the full refurbishment of the existing front bedrooms and corridor and the addition of a new ensuite and walk-in robe. The bulk of the works however are clearly centred around the rear addition. The complexity of building a raked and varying degree pitched roof structure with a slate roof tile finish that merges into the stone-clad walls and expansive glazed windows and doors create the lasting impression of this architectural build.

The home is buoyant with examples of quality construction and building techniques. As you walk through the existing part of the home you can visibly see the craftsmanship in restoring the original features of the art deco home by custom matching the existing cornice, skirtings architraves and ceiling panels. The new and old are separated by a custom full-height 2m wide hidden cavity sliding door that builds suspense as you traverse into the new. Showcasing polished concrete floors, stone-clad walls and large expansive glazed windows and doors. Yet there is no better example I can think of for quality in construction, than the build form and complexity of the raking roofs and slate works of the rear extension.

The homes are a striking visual representation of how the typical side by side townhouse can be transformed to create beautiful, functional spaces while capturing copious amounts of natural light. The home features highly detailed timber façade cladding works, highly finished joinery and a magnificent range of natural products.
