Studio Collin Cobia. Collin Cobia is an architect and academic licensed in California and Florida. His studio focuses on high-end architectural projects with an emphasis on craft, sustainability, and permanence. Collin has a Master’s in Architecture with distinction from Harvard University, a Bachelor’s in Architecture from University of Florida and has worked in design and construction in Boston, NYC, Los Angeles, Delaware, and Florida. He has served as a guest critic at the University of Southern California, University of Florida, and UCLA.
Prior to the creation of his practice, Collin worked as a general contractor and owner’s representative focusing on the development of notable architecturally designed homes from $5 million to $25 million, including several in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Beverly Hills. This experience imbued a thorough understanding of means and methods of construction, personalized client experience, financial rigor, and high standards of building excellence.
Because of his emphasis on permanence and sustainability, Collin is uniquely qualified to design homes in contexts vulnerable to natural disasters such as fire-prone Los Angeles and hurricane-exposed coastal regions. The Dune House, positioned along Florida’s Emerald Coast, is built to withstand 200-mph winds - its reinforced concrete shell resisting storm surges, windborne debris, and the corrosive effects of salt-laden air. In fire-prone landscapes, Collin's approach prioritizes non-combustible materials, defensible space planning, and passive design strategies that mitigate risk while enhancing the experience of place. His work is driven by the belief that architecture should not only endure but actively respond to its environment, integrating fire-resistant assemblies, elevated structural systems, and resilient material palettes to ensure that buildings become part of the landscape rather than vulnerable objects within it. His expertise lies in crafting homes that do not merely survive extreme conditions but embrace them, absorbing the forces of nature into their design language and structural DNA.
