Mt Pleasant - New Build.

This stunning new build on the slopes of Mount Pleasant, was the creation of JCM Design architects based in Auckland. Designed for a young professional couple who love the outdoors and wanted to enjoy the hill lifestyle.

The site had previously been home to an older house lost to the Canterbury Earthquakes, and was a reasonably steep site with an awkward access way, which made for a few challenges.

The angle roofing fits in with its natural, hillside landscape as well as offering plenty of practical roof storage space. On the eastern side of the dwelling, the tight right angles are home to full length windows, so each bedroom obtains an outlook of the encompassing view of the city towards the Southern Alps.

The entrance way is eye catching with grey block encapsulating the tall entrance door and window, to let light into the entranceway. A contrast to the vertical, black cedar board and batten cladding and the heritage tray roofing which overlaps the top of the building on an angle.

The ground floor is made up of a large double car garage, laundry and storage space with an oak laminate stairway that leads up the first floor. The first-floor level is home to the open plan living, kitchen and dining areas, heated by a wood burner, as well as the 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms.
